HOW YOU WILL SERVE IN THE U.S. ARMY RESERVE MEDICAL CORPS

In order to best serve our Soldiers and their families, we’ll want to utilize the skills you’ve gained in your chosen specialty. Look below to find a brief description of duties for your particular specialty.

General Surgeon
You’ll perform required surgery for patients with injuries or disorders that require surgical treatment. This will require you to thoroughly examine a patient’s condition, properly diagnose them, and prescribe proper treatments.

Orthopedic Surgeon
You’ll perform surgical operations for patients having disorders, malformations, diseases, and/or injuries of the musculo-skeletal system. This will require you to thoroughly examine a patient’s symptoms, properly diagnose them, and prescribe proper treatments.

Emergency Medicine
You’ll treat military personnel in the early stages of trauma and disease. You’ll stabilize the patient, formulate an initial diagnosis and then work with other physicians to obtain the best medical outcome for the patient.

Preventive Medicine
You’ll maintain the health of military and appropriate civilian personnel by planning, coordinating, and directing a program designed to improve physical fitness and prevent disease and injury. By evaluating their health and the factors influencing it, you’ll be expected to recommend proper treatments to those with unsatisfactory health conditions.

Family Practice
You’ll provide comprehensive care to patients at each echelon of the health service support system. Approximately 85 percent of your patients will require treatment in general medicine, gynecology, obstetrics, psychiatry, preventive medicine, pediatrics, and orthopedics in both inpatient and outpatient environments. As a Family Practice physician, you can augment the capabilities of the surgical specialties through triage, stabilization, and surgical assistance, as well as pre-operative and post-operative care.
