BENEFITS | TANGIBLE REWARDS FOR YOUR SERVICE

When you join the Army Reserve as a medical professional, you make a commitment to serve our Soldiers and their Families. It’s a commitment that will test your skills and experience, but will in turn deliver a host of rewards.

The specific benefits vary for Practicing Physicians, Residents, Prior Military and Clinical Psycologists. However, following is a list of the general benefits available to medical professionals with expertise in certain critical wartime specialties:

Health Professional Loan Repayment (HPLR)

The newly upgraded HPLR Program provides up to $250,000 for repayment of educational loans for physicians in critical wartime specialties. Payments are made in yearly increments of $40,000. One year or service is required for every year of loan repayment.

Specialized Training Assistance Program (STRAP)

If you are currently enrolled in an accredited residency program in a designated critical wartime specialty, you may qualify for the recently upgraded stipend of $1,992 per month, which is indexed annually for inflation. You may use this stipend for any purpose. One year of service is required for every 6 months, or any portion thereof, of stipend you accept.

Battle Assembly Pay/Annual Training Pay

As a member of the Army Reserve, you’ll be eligible for Battle Assembly Pay, which is additional compensation for training on weekends, and Annual Training Pay, which is compensation for your two weeks of training in the summer. You’ll be paid on an hourly basis and your wages will increase as you climb in rank and years of experience.

Special Pay (SP)

If you serve in one of the designated critical wartime specialties, you may be eligible for up to $75,000 in Special Pay, which is payable in yearly increments of $25,000.

The Post-9/11 G.I. Bill

If you have more than 90 days of continuous service since September 10, 2001, you may be eligible for educational benefits under the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill. Plus, if you have at least six years in the Armed Forces, you may be able to transfer these benefits to your spouse, and with 10 years in the military, to any dependent.

Health Insurance

As a Member of the Army Reserve, you and your family will have access to low-cost medical and dental coverage through a variety of TRICARE plans.

Family Support

We recognize your commitment affects both you and your loved ones – so we offer a full range of services to support your entire family. Learn more about family support services here.
